GRAIL probes with North Alabama ties get closer to lunar orbit

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- The possibility of gathering unprecedented scientific data on the moon draws closer as twin probes with ties to North Alabama approach earth's celestial neighbor.
The twin GRAIL probes are scheduled to go into lunar orbit on Friday and Saturday, which ultimately will bring the tiny probes to within 34 miles of the surface.
GRAIL, which stands for Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory, was launched Sept. 10 on a Delta II rocket built in Decatur at the United Launch Alliance facility. The probes are part of NASA's Discovery Program, which is overseeing the mission and is managed at Marshall Space Flight Center.

Verizon to add $2 bill-pay charge.

Verizon Wireless, which this month angered customers with three separate data service problems, said on Thursday it will add a $2 fee for one-time telephone and online bill payments.
The planned change, to take effect on January 15, was greeted by a storm of criticism.
Verizon Wireless rivals AT&T Inc and Sprint Nextel Corp said they do not charge their customers for any bill-payment options.

Hip-hop artist Kid Cudi has written a vert heartfelt note to an 18-year-old fan who passed away from a heart attack, one week after the teen posted videos to YouTube about his struggle with a heart condition.
Ben Breedlove suffered from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition that causes part of the heart to thicken, ABC News reported. In videos posted Dec. 18, Breedlove used notecards to describe the three times he “cheated death.”
The third time, Breedlove explained, happened after he passed out at school in early December. While paramedics worked to revive him, Breedlove said he had a vision that Kid Cudi appeared to him, while his favorite song, “Mr. Rager,” played. “Why he was the only one there with me, I'm still trying to figure out,” Breedlove wrote. At the end of the vision, Breedlove said, Kid Cudi told him to, “Go on.”

Rapper C-Murder's conviction, sentence upheld

A Louisiana appeals court has upheld the murder conviction and life sentence for the rapper known as C-Murder.

C-Murder,( real name is Corey Miller,) was convicted of shooting a teenager to death in 2002.

A three-judge panel from the state's 5th Circuit Court of Appeal on Wednesday rejected Miller's argument that he didn't get a fair trial.

In 2009, a jury convicted him of second-degree murder for shooting a 16-year-old, during a confrontation at a nightclub.

Miller claims the judge who presided over his trial allowed jurors to hear prejudicial and unsubstantiated testimony that he threatened witnesses to the shooting. He also accused prosecutors of systematically eliminating black people from the jury.

But the 5th Circuit rejected those arguments. C-Murder is the younger brother of rapper Master P whose real name is Percy Miller.

Russia test-fires two new nuclear missiles

Russia successfully tested two new Bulava intercontinental missiles on Friday. These missiles have experienced several failures in the past.

The Defence Ministry said the 12-meter-long Bulava, or Mace, which Moscow aims to make the cornerstone of its nuclear arsenal, was fired from a submarine in the Arctic White Sea.. It hit the target, a designated polygon, on Kamchatka peninsula in Russia's far east.

The missiles carry dummies rather than nuclear warheads as Russia is a part of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) which bans all nuclear explosions.

The Bulava had failed half of its prior trials, questioning the expensive missile program.

A Bulava missile weighs 36.8 tonnes and can travel a distance of 8,000 km (5,000) miles carrying 6-10 nuclear warheads, which would deliver an impact of up to 100 times the atomic blast that devastated Hiroshima in 1945.

UPDATE: Police get warrant in Atlanta rapper killing

Atlanta police say they have an arrest warrant for a man in the slaying of rapper Slim Dunkin, who was gunned down in a city music studio while he was preparing to record a video.

Police identified the man they're seeking as fellow rapper 28-year-old Vinson Hardimon, also known as Young Vito.

Sources say 24-year-old Slim Dunkin, whose real name was Mario Hamilton, was shot to death in the chest Friday after a dispute with another person that evening. He was taken to a city hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police are urging Hardimon to turn himself in because they have reason to believe he may be in danger.

Atlanta rapper Slim Dunkin was killed over candy, according to reports. A suspect has turned himself into police.

Before today, Vinson Hardimon, AKA Young Vito, had long dreadlocks, a mustache and a goatee. But he was short-haired and very clean shaven as he turned himself in Monday for the murder.

Slim Dunkin, AKA Mario Hamilton, was killed on Dec. 16 after being shot in the chest in a dispute over candy (yes thats right folks candy) during a video shoot in an Atlanta recording studio. Police say that Hardimon was the shooter man and they were looking for him when he turned himself in. It also appeared that his life was in danger, too, and the change in his appearance suggests that he felt he was a possible target for revenge.

Casey Anthony sued by man who found her child's remains

The man who found 2-year-old Caylee Anthony's body in 2008 is suing her mother for damages, saying Casey Anthony defamed him during her murder trial earlier this year.

Former meter reader Roy Kronk said in a lawsuit filed in Florida on Wednesday that 25-year-old Anthony and her lawyers tried to shift suspicion away from the young mother and on to him.

Professor claims NYU fired him after he gave James Franco a 'D"

James Franco’s tired James Dean act got an NYU professor booted from the school last year — after the teacher dared to give the overhyped Hollywood hunk a “D” for blowing off class, a lawsuit charges.
José Angel Santana said he slapped the “127 Hours’’ star with the bad grade because he missed 12 of his 14 “Directing the Actor II” classes while pursuing a master’s in fine arts.

Man locked in cellar: I never saw my government checks

A mentally disabled man says he didn't see his government benefit checks for 10 years after he started living with a woman who is now charged in a major fraud and abuse scheme.

Sanabria testified at Weston's preliminary hearing. He is one of four mentally disabled adults discovered locked in a basement in Philadelphia in October

Weston is accused of kidnapping, abusing, and collecting the victim's benefit monies. Prosecutors suspect the 51-year-old paroled killer maybe had dozens of adult and child victims.

Sanabria says Weston took him to a government office in 2001 for paperwork. He says he never saw his $674 monthly checks again.

Johnny Knox future "bright" after surgery

Chicago Bears receiver Johnny Knox will miss the rest of the season after undergoing
back surgery Monday.
It was confirmed that Knox would not play again this year. He was taken from the field on a cart early in Sunday's major loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Sources say the surgery to stabilize a vetebra in his lower to mid back started Monday morning and was not finished as of midday.
Sources reported it was a cracked facet joint, which helps to stabalize the spinal column. A source said Knox would be fully healed in three to four months. Get back out there Knox!

North Korean Leader Kim Jong il dies at 69.

Kim Jong Il, North Korea's mercurial and enigmatic leader whose iron rule and nuclear ambitions dominated world security fears for more than a decade, has died. He was 69.

Kim's death 17 years after he inherited power from his father was announced Monday by the state television from the North Korean capital, Pyongyang. The country's "Dear Leader" — reputed to have had a taste for cigars, cognac and gourmet cuisine — was believed to have had diabetes and heart disease.

North Korea has been grooming Kim's third son to take over power from his father in the impoverished nation that celebrates the ruling family with an intense cult of personality.

South Korea put its military on "high alert" and President Lee Myung-bak convened a national security council meeting after the news of Kim's death.

Syrian government threatens to execute 21 rebels in the next 24 hours

Syrian rebel forces have threatened "harsh" reprisals against the army after claiming that the government is planning to execute 21 captured defectors on Monday.

The Free Syrian Army, which has waged a rebellion against the government of President Bashar al-Assad since June, said it had received information that 21 of their number are to face a firing squad within the next 24 hours.

The rebels said they would retaliate against government forces and militiamen loyal to the regime in the city of Homs, an opposition stronghold, if the executions take place.

"I have a personal message for the army: If the army executes these men, there will be a very harsh retaliation against them here in Homs," Abdul-Razaq Tlas, the commander of one of two rebel battalions in the city, said.

Kobe Bryant's cheating led to divorce filing: REPORT

It was reported today that Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant cheated multiple times with multiple partners on his wife of more than a decade -- events that led to Vanessa Bryant's surprise divorce filing in Orange County, California Friday.

Of course, if this is true, Bryant will likely go back into the media doghouse as the latest celebrity athlete to succumb to carnal temptation.

Britney Spears is ready to walk down the aisle for the third time. The 30-year-old star has agreed to marry her longtime boyfriend Jason Trawick. (former agent)

Trawick announced Friday that he and Spears are engaged. The two have been dating since 2009.

Spears hinted at the big news with a tweet Friday morning that read, "OMG. Last night Jason surprised me with the one gift I've been waiting for. Can't wait to show you! SO SO SO excited!!!!"

Spears was previously married to Kevin Federline, with whom she has two sons: 6-year-old Sean Preston and 5-year-old Jayden James. The couple divorced in 2006. Rapper Slim Dunkin shot to death in Atlanta music studio

Atlanta police say the rapper Slim Dunkin was gunned down Friday evening in a city music studio as he was preparing to record a new music video.

Police Maj. Keith Meadows said the rapper, whose real name is Mario Hamilton, was shot in the chest after getting into an argument with another individual.

He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Meadows told The Press late Friday that police have not been able to identify the shooter. He said investigators have been asking those who were inside the studio about the incident. He said as many as 20 people were inside the small office-type building at the time of the shooting, which happened at around 5:30 p.m., but they were in different places.

Police have not recovered the handgun that was used. Investigators remained at the scene late Friday evening.

Rick Perry collects early retirement but...

Texas Gov. Rick Perry makes nearly $225,000 a year, but a good chunk of it comes not from his state salary, but from his retirement benefits.
Perry is paid $132,995 to run the state of Texas, but he also collects a monthly annuity of $7,698.96 – more than $92,000 per year – in early retirement, according to disclosure forms filed with the Federal Election Commission.
His only liability is a 2006 student loan for between $100,000 and $250,000 with an interest rate of 3.875%. A second student loan with a higher interest rate – 8.25% -- was paid in full earlier this year.
Sullivan said the loan was used to send Perry’s son Griffin to Vanderbilt.
Until August, Perry held a number of stocks and municipal bonds in a blind trust. Perry liquidated the trust when he declared his candidacy for president because it did not qualify as a federal blind trust.
The holdings “have been largely liquidated into cash or cash equivalents,” Sullivan said.

Chicago Bear's WR Sam Hurd Arrested

Hurd was busted on Wednesday by undercover Homeland Security agents after attempting to set up regular purchases of marijuana and cocaine to expand a drug sale system that he already had going.

The Bears organization released a brief statement Thursday morning: "We are aware of Sam's arrest and are continuing to gather details. We are disappointed whenever these circumstances arise." The former Dallas Cowboys receiver signed a three-year, $5.1 million contract with the Bears on July 29.

Thousands of birds... Mistakenly hit pavement thinking it is water????

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — Thousands of migratory birds were killed or injured after supposedly mistaking a Wal-Mart parking lot, football fields and other areas of southern Utah for bodies of water and heading to the ground in what one state wildlife expert called the largest bird crash she'd ever seen.

Crews started cleaning up the dead birds and rescuing the injured survivors after they " crash-landed" in the St. George area Monday night.

Second U.S. Drone goes down.

An American military drone that had been used to monitor piracy activity off the East African coast has crashed at an airport on the island nation of Seychelles during a normal patrol, officials said.The U.S. Embassy in Mauritius said the unmanned U.S. Air Force MQ-9 Reaper wasn't armed and that Tuesday's crash did not cause any injuries. The crash started a small fire that was quickly extinguished.

Iran releases video of downed U.S. spy drone–looking intact

American officials have agreed that an unmanned U.S. reconnaissance plane was lost on a mission last week, but have insisted that there is no evidence the drone was downed by hostile acts by Iran. Rather, they said, the drone likely went down because of a malfunction, and they implied the advanced stealth reconnaissance plane would likely have fallen from such a high altitude--the RQ-170 Sentinel can fly as high as 50,000 feet--that it wouldn't be in good shape.

Iran Agrees to Return the U.S. Stealth Drone in Toy Form

Iranians won't return the advanced RQ-170 Sentinel drone downed in their country late last year but they will give the White House a toy replica.
On Tuesday, Iranian Radio Payam reported that a local company is manufacturing a toy version of the stealth drone one eightieth of its size that will be shipped to the White House. News of the toy brinkmanship was first reported outside Iran by Reuters' Mitrak Amiri, who happened to be reporting on a ban on Barbie dolls by the state's morality police (children's toys are a hot topic in Iran right now). The report says the miniature drone will be sold in a "variety of colours." Conrad Murray Gets the Maximum sentence.

Conrad Murray, the doctor convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson, was sentenced to four years of jail time, the maximum punishment the judge could deliver. The sentencing came almost three weeks after a jury found Dr.Murray guilty of administering Jackson with a fatal dose of the powerful sedative Propofol on June 25, 2009. "Some may feel that this was a medical malpractice case. It wasn't. And this jury found that Conrad Murray, with criminal negligence, caused the death of Michael Jackson," Judge Michael Pastor said this before he revealed the sentence. "The fact is, Michael Jackson died because of the actions of, and the failures to perform legal duties on the part of, Conrad Murray."

Contingent Deal moves NBA lockout closer to an end.

The NBA and representatives of what was formerly the National Basketball Players Association reached a tentative agreement early Saturday morning to end the league's 149-day lockout.
The league expects to open the season with a triple header Christmas Day. Not worried about missing almost eight weeks of the season, the NBA is aiming to possibly have a 66-game season for each team, which would definitely extend the regular season by two weeks and downsizing the playoffs. A regular NBA season begins on or about Nov. 1 and includes 82 games. Your comments?

Most farmers plan to import trees from North Carolina to supplement any they have left, said Marshall Cathey, president of the Texas Christmas Tree Growers Association. Black Friday

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving Day in the United States, usually the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Syrian activists say the death toll from a day of security raids and violence has risen to 28 people.

I tried alligator for the first time yesterday and I must say I'm shocked that I did.

Another Sunday.

Today it's pretty wet and muggy outside in New Orleans. With only four days til Thanksgiving I still have to decide where exactly or how many places exactly that I am passing through for a meal. (lol) Then after Thanksgiving this weekend is The Bayou Classic, if you don't know what that is, it's Southern's and Grambling Universities annual football game held at the superdome. Afterward sports' fans head out to various night clubs in the city and of course Bourbon St. is completely flooded with people. This game brings lots of business for the city and unlike this past Halloween, I hope there's no violence. Well you all know what to do any comments or questions that you may have; don't hesitate to speak your mind.

Just got off the phone with a very rude rep.

I hate when I'm calling a company for help and they treat me like I am annoying them. The first representative was very pleasant and somewhat knowledgeable. The second representative was quite rude and I rushed me off of the phone. I won't name the company; but this guy really isn't customer service material.

NBA Lockout 2011 News.

The ongoing NBA lockout feels like a horror movie to most. There are so many unexplained shifts and bolts that it is hard to keep up with any of them. After the latest offers and negotiations fell through, the players took a major stand that could ruin the 2011-12 season for good. After rejecting the latest deal, the NBAPA held a press conference where they announced that they will shut-down. That will lead to lawsuits and at the least cancel many more games

How to cook a Turkey.

1. Remove giblets usually stored in a packet in the neck area of Turkey. Use them for making a broth if you wish to do so.. Remove and throw away any large pieces of fat that could be in the neck area.
2. For whole Turkey, drain juices and make sure cavity is dry using paper towels. At the moment, the USDA does not advise us to wash poultry prior to cooking it. If you do decide to , make sure to wash the sink with hot, soapy water or you can sanitize the sink with a mild bleach solution of 1 teaspoon of bleach to 1 quart of water. This will help to stop cross-contamination to other food items that may be washed in the sink.
3. Apply salt in a rubbing motion to the inside of the neck cavity area
4. Breast side should be placed up on a rack in a shallow pan.
5. Lightly apply to the skin oil or melted butter with a brush.
6. Insert an oven-safe meat thermometer into thigh area of large birds, make sure it's not touching bone. (Or for large or small birds, use an instant readable thermometer prior to you returning it to the oven.)
7. Roast, uncovered, without liquid according to the temperature and time given in the chart listed on my other blog titles "Turkey Chart" that's easy right? lol The roasting times include in the chart are for thawed poultry that is refrigerator cold.
8. If Turkey browns too fast, cover it with foil.
9. Being that roasts will continue to cook after removal from the oven, take them out when the internal temperature is 5-10 degrees under the desired done time.
10. Cover with foil and let stand for 10-15 minutes prior to removing any stuffing and carving.

It's 2012

It's the third day of the year 2012. Some say this will be a stange year, others say things will get better. I have spoken to several of my colleagues whom have given their opinion on what might come this year.

1. Better Economy. (Including job growth)
2. President Barack Obama will be re-elected. ( I sure hope so, I will be voting for him again)

Feeling free.

Today has been quite an eventful day. To start out, I was awaken @ 6am to lots of noise from my neighbors having a dispute. (Go figure) Then to my surprise there are police cars there taking one of them away. Ok I won't go into too much detail with that. On a positive note I went to get something to eat from the grocery store which also included a few items I intend to cook for my Thanksgiving meal. Today it will just be spaghetti and meatballs with a salad. One thing I did remember to purchase was a bottle of Crown Royal :-) Well enough babbling on hope everyone is having a good day. Peace.

I have a couple, 1. Grey Goose Vodka and Cranberry Juice.
2. Crown Royal and 7-up or Sprite.

Here's a great Thanksgiving beverage to try. It's called the Orange Pointer
1.5 oz Woodford Reserve Bourbon (basically you can use any Bourbon of your choosing)
2 barspoons of Orange Marmalade
1.5 oz Apple Juice (clear)
1 oz Freshly-squeezed Lemon Juice

Place all Ingredients into a shaker with 2 cups of ice, shake swiftly and strain into a glass ( prefer a rock but to each is own) over ice

You can garnish with an orange twist and a sprinke of nutmeg
