Nursery worker faces police probe for “burning” 10-mth old baby

Mother accuses nursery of negligence for cleaning baby with boiling water

A 10-month old Emarati baby was severely burned due to hot water being poured on his body at his nursery in Abu Dhabi.
The mother of the child told Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm that her baby, identified as Zayed, was burnt due to the negligence of the assistant who, while cleaning him didn’t notice that the water was boiling.
The child's mother has filed a police complaint and the child has been admitted to Al Mafraq Hospital for treatment.
The child's mother said she was surprised to see how serious the burns in the pelvic area and below were.
“I immediately took him to Al Mafraq hospital where he is still receiving treatment, more than a week after the incident,” she said.
“According to the medical report of the hospital my child is suffering from moderate burns, deep in some areas, which will need a long time to heal,” she claimed.
Colonel Ibrahim Al Za’abi, Director of Al Shabia Police station of Abu Dhabi Police said: “The preliminary investigation did not point to any existence of criminal intent.”
The director of the nursery, who wanted to remain anonymous, said, “There is no an intentional error behind the incident. It happened while the lady who is entrusted with cleaning the children did not observe the temperature of the water she used to clean.”
She added that the nursery dealt with the incident responsibly,  informing the parents as well as the police.
She added: “The nursery has been working for years in Abu Dhabi and has a good reputation for caring for children and has never had any such incident since its opening.”
The mother said she was forced her to keep her baby at the day care during the morning because of her work.
